Welcome to the Marlowe

The Marlowe Society is one of Cambridge’s oldest and most prestigious student drama societies. Created in 1907 as a reaction against the prevailing trends in student drama, it has gone on to have an incredible influence on British theatre. It counts among its alumni many of the country’s most renowned actors and directors – including four artistic directors of the National Theatre – and it continues to provide an excellent bridge for those looking to transition from student drama to working in professional theatre.

Today, the Marlowe continues to produce the high quality, innovative verse plays that it is famous for, including a high profile production at the Cambridge Arts Theatre every Lent Term, but also supports new writing in Cambridge. It also works to create opportunities for Cambridge students to meet and learn from industry professionals, such as the annual Marlowe Showcase and the termly Marlowe workshop series.
